After all the "what about minivans??" cries I saw here, I decided to check out the fuel economy of minivans vs. SUVs. The mileage of all vehicles is available at fueleconomy.gov, a link to which is posted with the article.
Guess what?? minivans don't come close to comparing with the large SUVs. They might match the smaller ones, but of course minivans hold 7 people on average, while the RAV4 and such hold only 5.
I didn't see any minivans which averaged under 20 mpg, while many SUVs did.
