You make me really sad. The anti-SUV stance is not about taking away anyone's rights to buy vehicles, it's about getting people to realise that OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE CONSUMERISM, a rampant disease of "industrialized" societies like the US, is killing us (have you ever heard of, "Protect me from what I want"?). I agree with you, this kind of action should be wider spread than just targeting SUVs.
I live in a very large city (chicago), and you cannot imagine the thousands of SUVs which are driven by residents here. It's a plague, a lot of which is based on the "status" that driving an SUV brings. Driving conditions have worsened because of them. You are so incensed that people may be threatening your right to buy an SUV, but what about the world's right to a healthy environment? What about our right to having good public transportation, which is put on the backburner because the car corporations control the economy? Have some foresight. There is a lot more at stake than people getting to drive big, wasteful cars just because they can.
